Source: https://carto.com/learn/guides/styling/animating-maps-with-point-data

bird-tracking-20170123.pngThis guide describes how to visualize point data over time, by applying the ANIMATED aggregation style to animate your map. This feature requires a map layer containing point geometries with a timestamp, or numeric field.

  1. Select the bird_trackinglayer
  2. Click STYLE to apply styling options for the map layer
  3. Choose ANIMATED as the aggregation option
  4. Ensure the column time_date is selected

To gain better understanding from our bird tracking data, color the paths of each of the three birds separately, by using the bird_name column to style the points by value.

After animating your data, click the FILL color and select BY VALUE. Choose the column bird_name to style your markers by the birds’ names. Edit the stroke to 0, change the blending to source-over, and set the resolution to 1.

Jugando con CartoDB

2016/01/15

  4. Conviértela en NUMBER si estuviera en STRING
  5. Selecciona en modo mapa en WIZARD
  6. COROPLETAS, columna _población
  7. Visualiza el resultado

Solar + Shadows analysis on Rue Massillon, Nantes (France)

2013/04/04

This is the beautiful building in from of my house in Nantes… Let’s model it first using Sketchup. Also i have used a non standard style only for visualization purposes…

rue_massillon_02

If we have the North behind us this means we are going to have a lot of light… but so far we are just guessing…

rue_massillon_01

Now we know if for sure. Take a look at the results by M. Capeluto’s Solar Analysis.

rue_massillon_03

If we face South we notice there’s a lot of sun in the other side of the building (every line is a summarized path during a month, being the higher the closer to the summer solstice)

Please take a look at the video prepared by Tomasz Janiak, the developer of the tool.

Hope you guys find it interesting. Please let me know your thoughts.

Architectural models and some fun

2013/03/11

I started sketching this building across the street and decided to include some funny pseudo 3D pictures of my girlfriend and myself… Architectural modelling is easy using Sketch-up. This model took me about 5 hours work (during the weekend, shame!), using components, texturing, handling scenes and exporting/editing Video.

Hope you guys like it.

Ever tried Google Earth 3D Building Maker?

2010/02/18

I started modelling 3D buildings quite a few years ago, I used to use 3D StudioMAX… After almost forgetting everything i knew about modelling, 3D and so on Sketch up was released by Google. In a few days i was not just making demos but working and producing!!! Its extremly easy!!!!. Now They have just released something called “Google Earth 3D Building Maker” and its amazing, theres no need to know anything about modelling, you just have to insert polygons and move vertexes…very intuitive indeed!.

place the number of polygons you need…move their vertexes to the proper position.

Directly upload it to your Google 3D warehouse…

And finally take a look at it inside Google Earth… that’s it!.

You can always use Sketchup to perfect it… but it’s good enough…a piece of cake!

Some of the buildings located in Madrid and Cape Town are mine!

Any questions?, please, don’t hesitate to contact me on:

Please, dont forget to turn on your speakers. Even if i first used a different score and Youtube’s elfs told me not to use it (because of copyright authoring) I have chosen this music from their stuff and this is what I finally got…

Hope you like it.

Some of my 3D scenarios

2009/08/16

Barcelona (Spain), Winnipeg (Canada), Las Vegas (USA), Moscow (Russia), Durban (South Africa), Vancouver (Canada) and Tokyo (Japan)… these were some of my Terrain view’s 3D scenarios published by Computamaps, a South African company I worked in not so long ago. By the way it was one of my best professional experiences ever… I enjoyed joining them a lot and It was very difficult leaving them (mainly because of Cynthia’s fruit salads;-)… Miss you guys a lot!!!

Hope you liked them.

One more 3D building. Avenida de la Vega 28108. Restaurante Asiático SHENG. Madrid, Spain.

2009/08/15

I used to have lunch every thrusday there, at the ‘Restaurante Asiático SHENG’. I strongly recommend you ‘entremeses’ (In China you will find them as ‘dim-sum’) and Cantonese duck or Hong Kong duck (this was slightly spicy thou).  Very good food, very fast service and pretty cheap menu: 10,7 €… ideal for an IT worker!.

These views were rendered using ‘V-RAY’ for Sketch-up.

News: Lufthansa Realtime 3D Airtraffic

2009/08/14

I have just read a very interesting item of news. WHITEVOID has just released a 3D visualization engine for monitoring more than 16.000  Lufthansa airplanes in realtime… amazing, isn’t it?.

lh_dokupix_final_selection01-550x365

lh_dokupix_final_selection20-550x365

You can navigate throughout the world in a 3D 14 meters screen (!) while you filter content and adjust size, speed and any other parameter…

lh_dokupix_final_selection22-550x365

In addition there’s a 3D audio system that helps you to be absolutely involved in the scenario… I’d love to handle one of those…
