ViewTec’s State-of-the-art 3D visualization

Good news!!!! They’ve probably released this Geovisualization Engine long time ago (It used to be an ‘in-house’ software) but I have just realized. I worked with this state-of-the-art TerrainView 3D software for six months while I was working as a GIS Specialist in Cape Town (South Africa)… What does this software has that no one of other softwares I know have????. Rain, snow, clouds, wind… Athmosferic conditions!!!!  A very reliable package… I have just uploaded a video rendered directly from a pre-recorded flight path… I will try to make my own while I work with this personal license key they have provided me for one month… Here it is!!. Hope you like it mates!.

Creating and personalizing KML code (placemarks).

First of all, what is KML?. KML is a file format used to display geographic data in an Earth browser, such as Google Earth, Google Maps, and Google Maps for mobile. You can create KML files to pinpoint locations, add image overlays, and expose rich data in new ways. KML is an international standard maintained by the Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC). You can choose wether authoring directly from Google Earth itself or you can try to understand the code and doing it by yourself… You can draw placemarks (using descriptive HTML to personalize them), ground overlays, paths, polygons… Let’s start with the placemark:

-> Simple placemark

  • An XML header. This is line 1 in every KML file. No spaces or other characters can appear before this line.
  • A KML namespace declaration. This is line 2 in every KML 2.2 file.
  • A Placemark object that contains the following elements:
    • A name that is used as the label for the Placemark
    • A description that appears in the “balloon” attached to the Placemark
    • A Point that specifies the position of the Placemark on the Earth’s surface (longitude, latitude, and optional altitude)

    you use the CDATA element, you can write HTML and avoiding Google Earth from parsing the code incorrectly:

    Rich Interface Design (RID) is the best way to work alongside a developer. You don’t have to design and afterwards the developer tries to transform it into code or upside down you dont have to try to understand developer’s code and at the same time doing your best to get a beautiful and outstanding application… with FLEX you guys are working at the same workspace… everything you design is automatically written into code and you can share it with the developer working with you… isn’t it fantastic???…
